The amazing adventures of Leti and Ana in Rome
A flash fiction by Ana Paula Tomazzini da Silva & Letícia Regina Marcolin
It was a beautiful day in August, Ana and Leti (short for Leticia) spent their time sightseeing and having fun around Rome to enjoy the trip they got as a graduation present. They went into lots of places and took lots of photos. On their way home, the girls were searching for a classic Italian restaurant to eat, but it was impossible to find it on a map.
But as you know, dear reader, nothing is always perfect. The problem was that they forgot to look at the weather forecast and were taken by surprise by a sudden heavy rain. They hadn’t brought an umbrella, which caused everything the girls had in their bags to get wet. As well as their feet. If that wasn’t enough, they were starving. But at least, they were suffering in Rome, suffering with style.
As you know, sometimes people have bad luck, but this girls’ evening had just become terrible. They had pushed their luck. When the rain started they began to walk under some places to protect themselves from the rain. They went to a shop but there was only one umbrella to sell. While they were walking, the umbrella made a sound and simply closed, Ana slipped on the wet floor and fell down with surprise. They were devastated.
The girls thought the day couldn’t get any worse, but it could. In the distance, they saw a creature standing in a dark corner in the street. Leti and Ana were sure to have seen a ghost. Ana wanted to scream while Leti, who is much more sensible, tried to sneak out of there, but they didn’t have time to do anything, they just stayed still, scared.
When it approached the girls, they prayed for the ghost not to kill them, but they realized it was a man. He said he was a waiter who was only trying to help them. He invited Leti and Ana to the restaurant where he worked to get shelter from the rain and to have dinner. They gladly accepted the invitation, and discovered that that restaurant was the place where they were looking to go and couldn’t find it on the map.
The waiter was very friendly and cooked carbonara pasta for them. It was the best food they had ever had and they finally were enjoying themselves, It was the perfect ending to a terrible day.
